The Scottish Cycling, Running & Outdoor Pursuits Show returned on the weekend of Saturday 3rd March after its weather enforced hiatus in 2018 (last year’s show was cancelled due to the ‘Beast from the East’).
Over 10,000 people flocked to the Glasgow SECC to see in excess of 100 exhibitors. As well as being able to view the latest and greatest in clothing, accessories, technology and equipment they also had the opportunity take part in a range of sporting and outdoor pursuits challenges which included the Tacx Challenge, a dry triathlon, mystery marathon challenge, climbing walls and zip lines.
The Tacx Challenge gave participants the opportunity to attempt to complete a tough 2.5km course, with over 200ft of climbing in under 6 minutes. All who completed the challenge within the time limit were entered in to a draw to win a fantastic prize package of a Tacx NEO 2 Smart Trainer and a trip to the Grand Départ Classic 2019.
Over 250 people tried their luck on the challenge throughout the two days, with the fastest times over the course of the weekend being; Male 3.38min Female 4.41min. Many people were willing to put in maximum effort to chase down the leading times, with people stepping off the Neo 2 Smart trainer having given their all, despite not always being dressed for the occasion (the top 3 men were all wearing jeans, so don’t be surprised if you see Team Sky in denim in the near future).
For many of the participants this was their first time on a smart trainer and they were all blown away by how realistic the experience was. Especially when it came to the climbs and the simulated road feel from the trainer. A number of these headed off to immediately place orders for Tacx Smart trainers from their local IBD.
The show was a great success, allowing a wide range of people from different sporting disciplines and broad range of fitness levels to try out multiple new sporting activities. Thanks to the organisers PSP Media Group for putting on an awesome event, which we are sure will be even bigger for 2020.
